What is the Darkling Psalter?
The Darkling Psalter is a project to make creative renditions of all 150 psalms. You can read them in text form on this Substack, or you can listen to them in audio form on the Darkling Psalter podcast.
How to use the Darkling Psalter
I have been asking people how they use the renditions found in the Darkling Psalter for several years, and a few themes have emerged in the answers.
Some read the renditions as part of a daily devotional or prayer rhythm, returning to the same psalms over time. Others use it as a way of seeing familiar Scripture from a fresh angle. Some turn to it in difficult seasons, finding language for experiences that defy words. And some share it—using it in teaching, pastoring, or passing it along to family and friends.

Why become a paying subscriber?
All of the psalms and podcast episodes are free.
A paid subscription is for those who want a more guided and structured way to engage the Darkling Psalter—and who want to support the work because it has meant something to them.
Paid Subscribers receive access to a members-only podcast with meditative audio walks through the renditions, including prayers and prompts for reflection. These are designed to help you slow down and engage more intentionally with God through the renditions of the Psalms.
They also have access to annotated walkthroughs of selected psalms, offering a closer look at meanings, allusions, and some of the thinking behind the writing.
In addition, paid subscribers receive devotional guides that gather psalms around specific themes—such as spiritual formation, praise, grief, and endurance—that can act as prompts for thought and prayer.
