Dear readers—let’s talk business.
We are at about the 45-psalm mark. The Darkling Psalter, Volume 1, will contain the first 75 psalms. It’s taken us three years to get here (and that’s after hitting 45 psalms once before, then starting over last year). The psalms now come at a steady clip, and I’m confident we’ll see this project through to the end.
I’m currently in talks with a publisher who wants to print both volumes. The catch? Their production queue is full for the next three years.
That got me wondering—what could we do to get a smaller “teaser” version into your hands sooner?
If I pulled together about 30 psalms and had them printed in a high-quality, small-batch run, would you want a copy?
Right now, there are 2,902 of you getting these emails. About 600 of you have clicked the little button at the bottom of each post to say, “Yes, I want a print copy.” (Though I’m pretty sure at least ten of those clicks are from my mom. Hi, Mom.)
A regional printer’s minimum run is around 500 copies—which isn’t cheap. We could also go the print-on-demand route, which would be faster and cost less.
So, two questions for you:
If we made a 30-psalm mini-volume, which ones would you want included? Share your picks in the comments.
Should we launch a crowdfunding campaign to make it happen? Would you chip in $25 for a copy and to help fund the run?
I’m aiming for a certain number of “Yes. Duh. Obviously.” clicks before we move forward. Don’t click just to be nice—click because you’re all in. I’m going to take the number of clicks and start doing math with it to see if this idea has legs.

If you're doing a smaller collection maybe it would be an opportunity to pull together some of the themes you've explored so far that might not make it into the larger book. The theme of the sea/water/etc. is one that comes to mind but there are several articles you've published that pull together "Psalms for _____" that might lend to chapters or sections in a small book.
